New Year Skin Resolutions 2017

It’s the start of a New Year and its seems to be the right time to get back on track either with things you are already working on, or maybe you are ready to start new positive habits. I am not big on New Year’s resolutions mainly because I am continually setting myself goals and measuring what is working and what is not, so January is no different to the rest of the year for me. Whatever your preference is in regards to starting the New Year, it is impossible to avoid the sense that the new year brings with it a chance to start afresh. While you are considering the different areas of your life that you wish to see changes in this year, looking after your skin is one that frequently comes top of the list for needing attention.

Regardless of whether you are on a tight budget or you are flush with cash, I here are my tips for making sure you have glowing skin throughout the year.

If you are on a budget there are a few simple steps that are key to having great skin.

  • Feed your skin from within, if you are not giving your skin the nutrients that it needs to heal and repair itself it will look dull and lifeless. Be more conscious of how the food you put in your mouth is fuel for your body and your skin….remember it is your bodies largest organ.
  • Stop using wipes on your skin, many contain alcohol that dry out your skin and the ones that don’t are merely moving your make up and debris from the day around your skin rather than actually taking it off. Get rid of them.
  • Always double cleanse, the benefits are endless, too many to list right now!
  • Even if you can’t afford to have regular facials you should try to invest in a professional treatment occasionally. Ideally you should have a facial every 4-6 weeks but if that is too much for your budget then twice a year is what you should aim for.

If  you have decided to invest more into your skin care this year, book a consultation with your skin expert  first. A good consultation will take everything into consideration including current skin care, diet, lifestyle and best treatment options.

Technology is so advanced these days that you don’t have to go under the knife to see dramatic changes in your skin. Laser rejuvenation, radio frequency and micro needling are all treatments that will allow you to slow the aging process and undo damage from the past. An initial course is usually recommended along with top up maintenance treatments.

My current favourites are the following treatments:

Venus Freeze

Venus Freeze™ is the ultimate solution for “freezing time” and reversing the ageing process. Perfect for targeting loose, wrinkled or tired skin on the face and body, Venus Freeze™ delivers impressive skin tightening results. Patients can also expect to see an immediate “Cinderella effect” due to the noticeable improvement that is experienced after just one treatment. Venus Freeze is also the only Radio Frequency treatment available which can be used into the orbital bone (the bone around the eye area) for a more lifted appearance.

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis Skin Therapy uses advanced science to achieve vibrant, even skin tone and smooth texture. Light penetrates deeply into the skin where collagen is manufactured, stimulating an increase of new collagen production. Unlike harsher methods, this is done without destroying the upper layers of skin (non-ablative). The Laser Genesis procedure safely, discretely and effectively treats scars, uneven textures, fine line wrinkles and large pores. The result is skin with smoother texture and a healthier appearance. The skin is gently warmed during this procedure, and daily activities may be resumed right away. This is truly a rejuvenating experience with no downtime. A great treatment for rosacea also.

Micro Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy CIT

During CIT, a roller with a series of fine medical needles is used to create small punctures in the skin. These punctures extend into the dermis, or deep layers of the skin, to create micro-trauma and stimulate the production of new collagen. The punctures do very little damage to the epidermis, or top layer of skin, allowing it to heal rapidly.

CIT can be an alternative to laser resurfacing in patients not suitable for laser treatment or wishing to have a less invasive procedure with fewer risks.

The best part of these treatments is that they can be combined for even further benefits and results, which makes it even more fun for me!

Whatever your skin goals for 2017 I am here to help you achieve them.
